About Me

My work is rooted in a fascination with colour, pattern and the beauty of everyday things. I am drawn to traditional subjects — flowers, fruit, landscapes and animals — but I use them as a starting point for something more expressive, playful and contemporary.

I work primarily in acrylic and mixed media, building paintings through layers of colour, texture, pattern and, at times, intricate papers and gold leaf. I enjoy the tension between recognisable subject matter and abstraction, allowing elements of a painting to become simplified, exaggerated or almost dreamlike. Colour is central to my practice; I use it not simply to describe what I see, but to capture a feeling, a memory or the atmosphere of a particular place.

Still life has become an especially important part of my practice. I am interested in the quiet beauty of domestic objects and arrangements — flowers from a garden, fruit on a table, a favourite vase — and in how these familiar things can be transformed through colour and composition. My landscapes similarly draw on places that have stayed with me, from the Yorkshire countryside to coastlines and landscapes encountered through travel.
